According to reports, the National Award winner was found dead at her residence and further details are awaited, Thousand Lights Police officials have stated. Vani Jairam was recently announced to receive the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, and the news of her death has come as a big shock to those in the film industry and fans, with many pouring in their condolences on social media.

Composer D. Imman expressed 'his anguish and sadness upon hearing the news of Vani Jairam's demise and revealed on Twitter how the iconic singer had recorded a song with him last August. He tweeted, "Can’t accept the hard hitting reality that Legendary Singer Vani Jairam Amma is no more. We miss you Amma. Met her and recorded for my upcoming film “Malai” last August. And I’m shocked to know that she’s no more today. My prayers. May Her soul Rest in Peace."

Vani Jairam carved a niche for herself with her skills and worked with the biggest names names in Indian cinema among whom included M.S.Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, KV Mahadevan, OP Nayyar, Madan Mohan, and RD Burman to name a notable few. She sang more than 10,000 songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu and Oriya languages recently completing 50 years as a singer, and also performed extensively around the globe. Vani Jairam had won the National Award for Best Female Playback Singer thrice, while also being felicitated with State awards by the Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha governments.
