The entire film and music industry came to a standstill learning about the passing of one of India's most celebrated talents, Alokesh Lahiri, popularly known as Bappi Lahiri. He left us on Tuesday (15 February 2022) at the age of 69 and spent his final hours at CritiCare Hospital in Juhu Mumbai. Various celebrities have expressed their condolences upon hearing the news and mourn the loss of this legend, including the likes of A.R.Rahman, and others.

Earlier he was hospitalized for a month due to multiple health issues. But his health continued to deteriorate even further so he was admitted to the hospital once again. He died due to a multitude of health problems including OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight. The last rites will be held on Thursday, February 17, as the family is waiting for his musician-son Bappa Lahiri to return from Los Angeles.

Bappi Lahiri was an Indian singer, composer and record producer. He also famously pioneered the use of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema from the 70s up until the 90s era and sang some of his own compositions. He was widely recognized for disco-style songs where he brought orchestration and fusion of Indian music with international sounds and youthful upbeat rhythms. Although most of his songs were written for discotheques and dance numbers, yet to his credits, there are several melodious songs as well. Apart from his popular disco-electronic music, Bappi Lahiri was also known for his signature look of his zooty style that consisted of gold chains, golden embellishments, velvety cardigans and sunglasses.

Looking away from the creative field, he also holds the title of being a politician as he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 31 January 2014 in the presence of Rajnath Singh, the then national President of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was declared a BJP candidate from Srerampur (Lok Sabha constituency) in West Bengal for the 2014 Indian general election and lost.
