Chakri Toleti, the director of 2 Tamil movies Billa 2 and Unnaipol Oruvan forayed into Bollywood with Welcome to New York. Now is back to Bollywood with a psycho thriller titled Khamoshi which means silence. Khamoshi female centric supernatural horror film featuring Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva in the lead roles. They have used minimal number of actors in the film and the production value looks substandard too. It is a remake of 2016 American film Hush and the director has made the same script in Tamil with Nayanthara as the lead.

Tamannaah is playing titular role of a deaf and mute girl whereas Prabhu Deva is playing an antagonist. Bhumika Chawla plays small and useless role. A physic (Prabhu Deva) who escapes from the asylum tries to drive a young mute woman (Tamannaah) away from the large UK property she has inherited. The result is yet another tired, ultimately incoherent horror movie that undoes the promise of its pretty good premise and potentially interesting story structure with dull scares, sloppy ending and a pair of unconvincing, leaden lead performances.

It takes so long to get going, the initial few scenes laid a good platform but in the end it was all setup and no payoff. The fails to generate the necessary suspense to keep viewers engaged. It is just a badly told tale of obsession that, in failing to take on any larger meaning, rapidly becomes depressing to watch. The climactic scene that is genuinely, but inappropriately, amusing. This film literally has no purpose whatsoever. Why was it even made?

While Prabhu Deva provides the occasional chill, the disturbing spooks aren't enough to make this boat float. Prabhu Deva just keeps killing people so mercilessly for no reason but he only tries to scare Tamannaah but not kill her even when he gets numerous opportunities. There is just no clarity on why Prabhu Deva keeps acting so strange.

Verdict: Khamoshi hardly has enough beef on its bones to make a meal
