National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran is expected to kick-off production work on his next film, Vaadivaasal, with leading actor Suriya in the months ahead. The upcoming film being bankrolled under blockbuster producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu's V Creations banner and featuring music by G. V. Prakash Kumar has been carrying massive hype ever since it was announced nearly two years back. With the pre-production works currently underway, actor-politician Karunas has now officially announced that he has joined the Vaadivaasal team as an assistant director.

The official statement reads as follows: "A film titled Vaadivaasal under Vetri Maaran's direction about the Jallikattu bulls is being made. Suriya is acting as the hero in the film, which is being produced by Kalaipuli Thanu. Actor Karunas joins the upcoming heroic Tamil film Vaadivaasal as an assistant director." Karunas stated, " Although I began my career as a Gaana singer, I earned recognition after being introduced in cinema. I have made the decision to work full-time in cinema and will be working as an assistant director to Vetri Maaran. The prospect of learning till the last moment is what makes cinema so special. I extend my gratitude to Vetri Maaran for adding me to the film and hope for its success." Below is Karunas' statement in full:

The buzz for Vaadivaasal, which will be based on acclaimed Tamil writer Si Su Sellappa's novel of the same name, continues to get bigger, with GV Prakash a few days back during an AMA session with fans on Twitter revealing that the film's album will be a raw folk-based one. He stated that the composing works for 2-3 songs have been completed while adding that the background score will have a native and rustic touch to it. As of now, acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Ameer has been added to Vaadivaasal's star cast, with the technical team featuring R. Velraj for cinematography.
