Karthi's Viruman, the latest release in Tamil cinema, has opened big at the box office and has taken one and all by pleasant surprise with its unstoppable performance. Viruman released in theatres on Friday, August 12 amidst good expectations and it took a huge opening, overtaking Karthi's previous existing records. On the opening day, Viruman collected 8.2 crores (gross) at the Tamil Nadu box office, making it Karthi's highest ever. While the film was expected to do great business in the B and C centres, Viruman took everyone by pleasant shock by holding great occupancy in the city theatres as well.

Several leading theatres in Chennai planned midnight shows to meet the demands. That being said, the second day box office collections are now known and the numbers are better than the first day. Yes! The second day box office collection of Viruman is better than the first day and it looks like the film is comfortably set for a super run. According to reliable reports, Viruman's Day 2 box office collection is estimated to be around 8.45 crores and it has registered fantastic occupancy in all centres. Viruman is directed by Muthaiya of Komban and Kutti Puli fame and has music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

The star composer's songs have emerged highly popular among the masses. Produced by Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment, the film has Shankar's daughter, Aditi Shankar playing the female lead, marking her debut in Tamil cinema as an actor. Karthi's success streak at the box office seems to continue and he will be looking forward to maintaining the momentum with his upcoming ventures as well. Karthi has two other films getting ready for release - Ponniyin Selvan that is set for release on September 30 in the pan Indian market and Sardar, the action drama, that will release for the festive occasion of Diwali.
