Actor Nani’s start to 2019 was off with a bang after his first film of the year, Jersey, written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri under Suryadevar Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainments banner went on to become a critical and commercial success. The plot of the sports drama film revolves around the character Arjun, a middle-aged cricketer, portrayed by Nani, whose career has gone off the rails and is put under pressure to quit his dream, which leads to several complex situations in his family and life. With the film turning out to be a big success among fans, it is being speculated that Bollywood filmmaker and producer Karan Johar is in talks to acquire the Jersey Hindi remake rights.

Ever since Jersey went on to become a box office and critical hit, there has been considerable talk regarding getting the film remade in other languages with filmmakers and production houses from across the nation vying to acquire the remake rights. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions happens to be a powerhouse name in Indian cinema and it remains to be seen how things transpire in the days ahead. The reputed production banner is already committed to making several films in Hindi next starting with the blockbuster-in-the-making, Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, followed by Sushant Singh Rajput’s Drive, Varun Dhawan’s Rannbhoomi, Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershah under Vishnuvardhan’s direction including Karan Johar’s own ambitious Mughal era period based-directorial, Takht, with a multi-star cast.

Jersey has turned out to be one of the biggest hits in Telugu this year with many lauding the film for its deft direction, intense screenplay, power-packed performances and strong technical aspects. Apart from Nani’s thunderous act, actress Shraddha Srinath too went on to come out with flying colors as the superstar’s wife in the film followed by veteran actor Sathyaraj too receiving plenty of appreciation. Furthermore, the film included hit music by Anirudh Ravichander followed by impressive performances by Sampath Raj, Sanusha, Shishir Sharma, Jayaprakash and Harish Kalyan making a cameo appearance.
