It is also claimed to be the world's first non-linear single-shot film and it opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike.

The film's technical finesse was lauded by many. The makers of this challenging film took the opportunity and shared the making video of the film. The film, which is claimed as the world's first single-shot non-linear film, was released recently and opened to mixed reviews. The video features the prep work put into the making of the film. This includes the building of various sets and choreographing everyone so that they know what to do, how to do it, and when to go. Given that the entire first is shot in a single take, it is important to have everything from the major elements to the most minor details completely mapped out. The video also shows Parthiban directing the people working on his dream project.

Iravin Nizhal marks the maiden collaboration between Rahman and Parthiban. Though the duo was supposed to come together for a film titled Yelelo, it did not materialize. Rahman later revealed that Parthiban's passion for filmmaking and the unique way in which the film is made, made him get on board. In an interview, Parthiban said, "I always try to experiment with things, and that has been my only constant, ever since Pudhiya Padhai. A single shot can be used to tell any story, but I have figured out a way to tell a non-linear story in such a format using a new technique.”
