After years and years of anticipation and after the release of many teasers, posters, and glimpses, the makers of House of the Dragon have finally dropped their official trailer a month before the new series is all set to air. The trailer gives us a sneak peek into the plot of House of the Dragon and the events that will or might transpire because of it.

Adapted from Martin's Targaryen history book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of a turbulent period for House Targaryen, one that set sibling against sibling and dragon against dragon. The point of contention: who should rule on the Iron Throne.

The trailer starts off with King Viserys Targaryen having to choose his heir who will be his successor to the Iron Throne. He is torn between his brother Daemon Targaryen and daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen as they both have the rightful claim to the throne. Things start to go astray when Rhaenyra is chosen as his heir which is not acceptable by Daemon as well as many others as no woman has ever sat on the throne before. This is the start of the civil war during the Targaryen rule of the Seven Kingdoms - a war of succession between the family over the Viserys' throne.

There are many other factors that come into play as well as the lore of Westeros is not known for simple problems with simple solutions, but the civil war serves as thcarae crux of House of the Dragon. The trailer also shows all the characters, shedding some light on their true nature. It also features a closer look at some of the dragons from the upcoming series which also includes the two main ones - Daemon's Caraxes and Rhaenyra's Syrax.
