Malayalam film director Alphonse Puthren's next big outing, Gold, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and 'Lady Superstar' Nayanthara has suffered a slight setback in terms of release and will be coming out in cinemas worldwide a week after Onam. The filmmaker, who is best known for his films like Neram and Premam, took to social media on Thursday evening, September 1, to issue a statement regarding the upcoming film's release postponement. Alphonse Puthren wrote on Facebook, "Due to work delay on our side “Gold” will be releasing one week after Onam. Please forgive us for the delay caused. Hoping to compensate this delay through our work when “Gold” releases."

The news of Gold's release being pushed by a week has come as a bit of a disappointment for fans, who were hoping to catch it in theatres this Onam as many have been waiting for seven long years to witness Alphonse Puthren’s next after his blockbuster Premam, which was also a huge success in Tamil Nadu. An intriguing teaser for the Prithviraj and Nayanthara-starrer was released sometime back to a stellar response from fans, who instantly expressed their excitement for Alphonse's fun-filled next.

Produced by Prithviraj Productions in association with Magic Frames banner, Gold is also coming out in Tamil and is being released by SSI Productions, which was previously associated with Silambarasan TR's 2021 blockbuster, Maanaadu. Prithviraj will be seen playing a character named Joshi in the film, while Nayanthara is the character of Sumangali Unnikrishnan, with the supporting cast featuring a line of notable names that include Chemban Vinod Jose, Lalu Alex, Baburaj, Mallika Sukumaran, Vinay Forrt, Shammi Thilakan, Shabareesh Varma, Jaffer Idukki, Roshan Mathew, Justin John, Deepti Sati, Ajmal Ameer, Saiju Kurup, Prem Kumar, Suresh Krishna, Shanthi Krishna, among others. Expectations for Gold are massive as it also includes composer Rajesh Murugesan's music, who was a big pillar in the success of Alphonse Puthren's Premam back in 2015.
