It has been more than 3 years since the final season of Game of Thrones aired. Since then, HBO has confirmed multiple spinoff shows following the immense success of their fantasy drama series. Now, George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has confirmed rumors of a Jon Snow-focused Game of Thrones sequel series and added a few tantalizing details in the process.
A Game of Thrones sequel starring Kit Harington is in the making and will be called Snow for the time being. Taking to his blog, Not a blog, the author wrote, "Yes, there is a Jon Snow show in development". Martin also disclosed that the working title for the series was simply 'Snow'. This is a straight reference to the informal last name of the series' titular hero, a name that is given to all bastards born in the North.
“Yes, it was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us”, Martin continued. “I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners since that has not been cleared for release yet… but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific. SNOW has been in development almost as long as the other three, but for whatever reason, it was never announced and it never leaked… until now”, Martin added. George R.R. Martin praised the terrific showrunners and writers that Harrington hired himself.
The trio of previously announced GoT spinoffs in the works are the Amanda Segal-directed 10,000 Ships; 9 Voyages aka Sea Snake from Bruno Heller; and the Steve Conrad-penned Dunk & Egg prequel series titled either The Hedge Knight or Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Apart from this, the prequel series House of the Dragon, based on Martin's Fire & Blood novel, is the only Game of Thrones spinoff series to air for at least a full season. The upcoming new series debuts will debut on 21 August 2022. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen; the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen civil war, known as the 'Dance of the Dragons'.
