Leading Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan, son of iconic superstar Mammootty, has tested positive for Covid-19. The actor took to social media on Thursday evening to inform followers that he has tested positive for the virus. Dulquer, who made his Tamil cinema debut in 2014's Vaayai Moodi Pesavum and played the lead role in Mani Ratnam's O Kadhal Kanmani in 2015, further stated that he is currently under home isolation with mild symptoms, while also requesting the people who came in close contact with him to undertake a Covid test. He wrote, "I have just tested positive for COVID-19. I'm isolating at home and have mild flu symptoms but am otherwise ok. People who were in close contact with me during shoots over the last few days, please isolate and test if you notice symptoms." He added, "This pandemic is not over and must stay vigilant. Please mask up and stay safe." Below is the official statement:

Dulquer's dad Mammootty too tested positive for Covid-19 on January 15 after he developed mild symptoms. The National Award-winning veteran actor said in his note: "Despite taking all the necessary precautions I have tested Covid Positive yesterday. Besides a light fever I am otherwise fine. I am self isolating at home as per the directions of the concerned authorities. I wish for all of you to stay safe. Mask at all times and take the utmost care."

On the work front, Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited Malayalam film Salute was postponed from its initially planned January 14 release, with the actor, who is also the producer of the upcoming venture announcing that it has been pushed due to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The actor, who was last seen in Tamil in Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal in 2020, is also awaiting the release of the rom-com Hey Sinamika, which has him sharing screen space with Kajal Aggarwal and Aditi Rao Hydari under National Award-winning choreographer Brinda's direction, who is incidentally making her filmmaking debut.
