Tragedy struck Bollywood director Girish Malik’s family on Friday when his son Mannan died after falling off from the fifth floor of their residence in Andheri, Mumbai. He was 17. As of now, it is unknown whether his death was an accident or he committed suicide by jumping off the building sometime around afternoon. The sad news of Mannan's death was confirmed by Puneet Singh to ETimes. He said, "Mr Malik’s son has passed away but I cannot say anything at the moment about what exactly happened. We are not in a state to speak."

According to reports, Mannan was celebrating Holi and came back home around noon when the incident happened. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he breathed his last. The passing of Malik's son has also left Sanjay Dutt extremely sad. The filmmaker and the Bollywood actor had previously collaborated for the 2020 film, Torbaaz, which also starred Nargis Fakhri and was released on Netflix. Torbaaz producer Rahul Mittra told Times of India, "I am nonplussed to learn about the unfortunate incident and just informed Sanju who’s deeply saddened too. We are shocked beyond words. I had met Mannan a couple of times along with Girish during the making of Torbaaz and found him to be very talented & a boy of promise. May God give Girish and the entire family strength to cope up with this irreversible loss. My heartfelt condolences."

Apart from Torbaaz, Girish Malik directed the Purab Kohli and Kirti Kulhari-starrer Jal in 2013, which was based on the Rann of Kutch. He has also made Band of Maharajas starring Chitrangda Singh, which explored the life story and journey of Pakistani singer-activist Billo Mumtaz.
