Earlier this morning (July 17), director Vijay's (AL Vijay) mother AL Valliammai passed away and her demise has come as a shocker for the film fraternity. Valliammai was 67 years old when she breathed her last and her cause of death is yet to be known. The mortal remains of Valliammai has been kept at their residence in T Nagar, near Nadigar Sangam for the close friends and family members to pay their final respects. Notable film personalities have extended their condolences on social media and some are expected to go in person and pay their homage. The cremation will take place tomorrow (July 18) around 10.30 AM at Besant Nagar. 

At this moment, Galatta Media expresses its deepest condolences to director Vijay and his family and prays for the departed soul to rest in peace. Valliammai is survived by her husband, AL Alagappan and her two sons - Udhayaa and Vijay.

AL Alagappan is a notable actor and producer in Tamil cinema who has a good filmography. Alagappan rose to fame as an actor through his impactful performance in Sasikumar's directorial, Easan, after which he acted in movies like Nerungi Vaa Muthamidadhe, Thiri, and Paramapatham Vilayattu. As a producer, Alagappan has bankrolled films like Saivam, Idhu Enna Maayam, Oru Naal Iravil, and Vanamagan. Valliammai's elder son, Udhayaa is also an actor in Tamil cinema, while the younger son, Vijay is one of the prominent filmmakers in South.

Vijay is known for directing films like Kireedam with Ajith, Thalaivaa with Thalapathy Vijay, Deiva Thirumagal and Thaandavam with Chiyaan Vikram, and many other projects. Vijay had last directed Thalaivi, the biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalitha. Kangana Ranaut played the lead role in the film which fetched decent reviews. Up next, Vijay is directing a web series for the Zee 5 platform and more details regarding the project are awaited.
