Over the past couple of days, there were reports doing the rounds in the news and social media stating that former Indian cricket team captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is planning on making his Tamil cinema debut as a producer. Furthermore, it was being stated that leading South Indian actress Nayanthara was being eyed to play the lead in the venture, which would be officially announced after the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to a conclusion. According to reports, a person named Sanjay had alleged to be associated with 'Superstar' Rajinikanth, while adding that he would be steering the Dhoni-Nayanthara project, with the cricketing superstar's Dhoni Entertainment now issuing a clarification to put an end to the rumors.

In an official press statement, MS Dhoni's production house said, "Dhoni entertainment is currently not working with anyone named Sanjay. We deny such hiring of any person and we request everyone to be cautioned of these fraud claims. However our team is currently working on various exciting projects that we will be shortly sharing with you all. Stay tuned and watch this space for more."

It seems the rumors about the venture took flight after Nayanthara's boyfriend, filmmaker, and lyricist Vignesh Shivan recently worked with Dhoni on a television commercial campaign. The latest press release has put an end to all rumors about the Dhoni-Nayanthara project and all sights will be set on what the cricketer is planning after IPL 2022 comes to an end.

On the work front, MS Dhoni is currently associated with a mythological sci-fiction ''new age graphic novel" titled Atharva: The Origin, which will "explore the journey of a mysterious Aghori who has been captured at a high-tech facility." A motion poster was also released earlier this year to a huge response from fans and featured Dhoni in an animated format taking on a demon-like army along with his legion of warriors on a battlefield. Nayanthara, on the other hand, is attached to several big ventures starting with 'Megastar' Chiranjeevi’s Godfather in Telugu, Premam director Alphonse Puthren's Gold in Malayalam starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, her untitled Bollywood debut film with Shah Rukh Khan under Atlee's direction, including Connect and the recently-announced O2 in Tamil.
