There's no stopping two-time National Award-winning Tamil actor Dhanush's Vaathi as the period action drama is dominating the ratings chart in India. Produced by Naga Vamsi's Sithara Entertainment in association with Sai Soujanya's Fortune Four Cinemas banner, the film directed by Venky Atluri of Tholi Prema and Rang De fame also released in Telugu under the title Sir has now taken the top 3 spots on Netflix, the makers announced on Tuesday, March 21. Sithara Entertainments has revealed that Sir in Telugu and Hindi took the first and second places, while Vaathi is trending at the third spot on the streaming platform, as the film also continues to draw audiences to cinemas ever after its OTT premiere. 2023 has started off on a bang for Dhanush with the spectacular success of Vaathi and Sir, which has collected Rs. 118 crores in worldwide box office collections, Sithara Entertainment announced last week. The film set in the late 1990s and early 2000s has the leading Tamil actor playing the role of a teacher, who steps forward to get the students of an intermediate college institution achieve first-class distinction and stop the plans of Samuthirakani, who owns private institutions and adopts several government colleges. Vaathi and Sir attained an instant connection with fans in Tamil and Telugu for its nostalgic factor, performances, story, and music, which was composed by National Award winner G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Vaathi sees Dhanush paired with youth sensation Samyukta, who has delivered yet another credible performance after she impressed audiences in Malayalam cinema. Director Venky Atluri too is getting appreciation from all corners for coming up with a story that is relatable to the sensibilities of audiences of all ages and for presenting the film in less than two and half hours. With the phenomenal success of Vaathi, Dhanush's fans are now gearing up for the actor's Captain Miller, which is expected to be launched in theatres later this year.
