Two-time National Award-winning actor Dhanush's Vaathi has released in theatres worldwide today (February 17) and is his first big film of 2023. The period action drama is a bilingual and is titled in Sir in Telugu, with the film carrying quite a lot of buzz ever since it was first announced. With the satellite rights bagged by broadcasting giant Sun TV and Aditya Music partnering as the audio label, it has now been finally confirmed that the post-theatrical digital rights of Vaathi have been acquired by global streaming platform Netflix.

The news was confirmed during the screening of Vaathi released earlier today and an announcement on the OTT platform premiere can be expected after the film's run in theatres. Although the promotions have been quite low-key, the film has taken a big opening in theatres in Tamil Nadu where it has been released by blockbuster producer-distributor Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio banner. Vaathi has come along the lines of Dhanush's 2022 Thiruchitrambalam, which turned out to be a phenomenal critical and commercial success, and there are high hopes that the latest Dhanush-starrer too will follow suit.
Vaathi has been directed by hit Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri of Tholi Prema and Rang De fame under Naga Vamsi's Sithara Entertainments banner in association with Sai Soujanya's Fortune Four Cinemas and is presented by Srikara Studios. Set in the 1990s, the film has Dhanush and Malayalam sensation Samyuktha paired together and the duo are playing the role of teachers, with the supporting cast featuring Samuthirakani, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Hareesh Peradi, Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, and Praveena. Composer G. V. Prakash Kumar has hit the bulls-eye with yet another Dhanush venture as the success of Vaathi's music has come along the lines of their previous collaborations Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, Asuran, and Maaran.
