Two-time National Award-winning Tamil actor Dhanush's next film, Maaran, announced for a direct premiere on Disney+Hotstar has been directed by Dhuruvangal Pathinaru and Mafia fame Karthick Naren under the prestigious Sathya Jyothi Films banner and features music by G. V Prakash Kumar. Promotions are already underway for the upcoming film, which has been billed to be a new-gen thriller, with the makers recently announcing that the film’s first single titled 'Polladha Ulagam' sung by Dhanush and featuring rap by Arivu, with lyrics by Vivek and choreography by Jani will be out on January 26 on the occasion of Republic Day. In that light, Hotstar has released a short 'Polladha Ulagam' song promo video from Maaran and shows Dhanush belting out a few energetic moves on the dance floor. 

Maaran is the fifth occasion GV Prakash has composed songs for a Dhanush film after he gave chart-busters in box office blockbusters like Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, and Asuran. His songs in all the films have received a terrific response and continue to be celebrated by the music director's fans. GV Prakash’s songs in his last outing with Dhanush in Asuran was a major USP in bringing audiences to theatres, with fans expecting yet another cracker of an album for the upcoming film. 'Polladha Ulagam' in Maaran is also the second time Arivu has contributed on the rap front in a Dhanush film after the 'Mavane' song in 2020's martial arts venture, Pattas. 

Dhanush is playing the role of a journalist in Maaran, which also has Master heroine Malavika Mohanan as the female lead. The film includes a talented ensemble cast featuring the likes of Samuthirakani, Mookuthi Amman actress Smruthi Venkat, Soorarai Pottru fame Krishnakumar, and Master Mahendran in pivotal roles, and will be releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
