A film that had fans excited right from the moment of its announcement earlier this year, National Award-winning actor Dhanush is working with critically-acclaimed director Karthik Subbaraj on the tentatively titled, D40. The project was initially planned to roll out sometime in 2016 after which reputed producer S. Sashikanth had revealed he would be bankrolling it under his Y Not Studios banner. It wasn't long back a major leg of filming wrapped up in the United Kingdom considering a majority of film’s plot is primarily there. That said, S. Sashikanth took to his Twitter page to announce D40’s Indian schedule has now begun and will go on till December 24. He further revealed that the film will be shot for three more days in mid-January 2020 after which production will completely be wrapped up and post-production will carry forward in a full-fledged manner.

D40 is Dhanush’s third film in the gangster genre after starring in the cult hit, Pudhupettai and last year's Vada Chennai. The film is also Karthik Subbaraj’s next after the blockbuster, i, with ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth earlier this year. Popular Malayalam actress Aishwarya Lekshmi, who made her Tamil acting debut in Vishal’s Action, is playing the female lead followed by National Award-winning actor Joju George, Kalaiyarasan, Super Deluxe fame Ashwanth Ashok Kumar among others in starring roles and music being composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
