'Chiyaan' Vikram's next big film, Thangalaan, marks the National Award-winning actor's first-time collaboration with ace filmmaker Pa. Ranjith, which is currently being shot at the Kolar Gold Fields (K. G. F.) in Karnataka. The upcoming film being produced by K. E. Gnanavelraja's Studio Green and Ranjith’s Neelam Productions banners is also the first time the blockbuster filmmaker is teaming up with composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, who as well won the National Award last year for his work in Suriya's Soorarai Pottru. Recently, G. V. Prakash along with Telugu director Venky Atluri sat down for an exclusive interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk about their latest film, Vaathi, starring Dhanush, while also sharing a few interesting details regarding his work in Thangalaan.

Speaking about the songs in Thangalaan, G. V. Prakash said, "We've finished three songs. They have come out extraordinarily well. It's a period film. In Aayirathil Oruvan, I did period with Indian traditional classical. Recently, I've been doing a lot of period films like Vaathi had a different setup set in '90s. Tiger Nageswara Rao is a dacoit film set in the '70s or '80s. Thangalaan is set in the British period and it has tribal and international mixed into it. And. he (Pa. Ranjith) has his own set of lyric writers who are always there around. So, when I give a tune, he'll keep working with them. And, before coming to me, he'll keep so much of lyrics and then he'll come to me with a lyric. The lyrics are so beautiful. They've coined it. For the teaser, he gave me only two days to work on it. When he told me about this, I said I need to compose it first and asked him some time. Then, I finished it in two days and the first musical bit came with the teaser. It worked out really well." Talking about how it is quite rare for the lyrics to be first given to the music director and then the composition begins, he adds, "He (Pa. Ranjith) keeps working on it because it has a lot of tribal content into it. He has worked on those authentic lyrics and the words will be very sweet."
