Chiyaan Vikram's Cobra released in theatres yesterday (August 31) amidst huge expectations. The film opened to mixed reviews from the critics and general audiences with many of them having concerns mainly with the longer duration of the film. The final locked theatrical version of Cobra had a duration of 3 hours and 3 minutes which was used as a promotional strategy as 3:3:3. That being said, the makers have now cut short the film by 20 minutes and the updated version will be playing in theatres from this evening. The updated runtime of Cobra will be 2 hours and 43 minutes and it will start playing from today's evening shows.

The announcement was made by the team through a statement that read, "Any movie is a form of entertainment specifically curated to cheer audiences and make them enjoy the cinematic experience. It's of great happiness to the team if content delivered is worth the audience time and ticket money. We heard you! Cobra is now trimmed by 20 minutes as suggested by film-goers, fans, our media friends, distributors & exhibitors. Now watch the trimmed version of Cobra from this evening in all shows across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala. Do watch in theatres and support".

One has to wait until the night to know which scenes have been removed from the film, but going by the buzz, it is more likely that the romantic portions featuring Vikram with Srinidhi Shetty and Mirnalini Ravi would be cut. Cobra is directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of Demonte Colony and Imaikkaa Nodigal fame and has music composed by A.R.Rahman. Vikram features in multiple makeovers in Cobra and it is sure to serve as a treat for the fans. Produced by Seven Screen Studio, the film has Srinidhi Shetty playing the female lead, while the supporting cast includes the likes of Mirnalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindharajan, KS Ravikumar, Roshan Matthew, Mia George, Robo Shankar, Anandaraj, and others.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan made his acting debut with Cobra and his performance as the Interpol officer Aslan has been receiving positive reviews.
