With Mahaan getting checked off of Vikram's list of movies awaiting release, it is now time for Cobra. The psychological action thriller is helmed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu and produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar under the Seven Screen Studios banner. This film marks the Tamil debut of Srinidhi Shetty and the film debut of former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan. The film also stars Miya George, KS Ravikumar, Roshan Mathew and Robo Shankar in supporting roles. The music and original score is composed by A. R. Rahman, with cinematography handled by Harish Kannan and editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan.

Irfan Pathan is making his acting debut with the film and will be seen taking up the role of a Turkish Interpol officer named Aslan Yilmaz. According to a post made by the film's director, the former Indian cricketer turned actor has officially wrapped up shooting his parts of the film yesterday, February 11. Vikram had already completed shooting for his portions, a few weeks back.

While the film was first rumored to be titled Amar, the makers later finalized the film's official title as Cobra since it resembles the pivotal character of a cobra snake. The director, in an interview, stated that "the protagonist’s character and the cobra have a link. If I reveal anything more now, it will give away too many details. Also, since the film is made in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi, I wanted a title that works in all languages. Hence, we zeroed in on Cobra."

Vikram plays a genius mathematician who uses his brain to solve multiple crimes. He will also be seen in multiple avatars throughout the film. Cobra is planned to release as a pan-Indian film in 5 different languages including Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam. Srinidhi Shetty who marked her acting debut with the blockbuster K.G.F: Chapter 1 back in 2018, will be making her debut in Kollywood through the film.
