Marc Pilcher, known for his work as a hair and makeup designer on the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton, passed away due to COVID-19 on Sunday. He was 53. An Emmy award winner, the news of the U.K.-based stylist's death was confirmed by his agency Curtis Brown to U. S. media. Pilcher, who was double vaccinated three weeks back and had no underlying health conditions, was awarded an Emmy for "Outstanding Period And/Or Character Hairstyling" in September in Los Angeles for his work on Bridgerton. Soon after returning to the U.K., he became ill, with his health condition worsening over the weekend. Pilcher had taken multiple COVID-19 tests and tested negative in order to make the trip across the Atlantic to the U. S. for the Emmys.
Condolences have been pouring in for Marc Pilcher from fans and celebrities, including Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan, who played Penelope Featherington on the show. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Coughlan paid her tributes to the hair and make-up artist and wrote, "Marc was so passionate about his work and so tremendously talented. Not even a month ago he won his first Emmy award. It's a tragedy that he's been taken so young when he had so much yet to do." She added, "Please also use this as a reminder that Covid is still a very real and present danger, please get vaccinated and mask up to protect yourself and others."
