In tragic news, popular Bengali actress Aindrila Sharma died on Sunday, November 20, at 12.59 p.m., after battling a brain stroke for nearly a week. She was 24. The news of Aindrila's passing away was confirmed by her family members, including the hospital where she was admitted and had suffered several heart attacks on Saturday night. "She underwent critical surgery, and a biopsy showed that she was having brain metastases. She was treated by a team of neurosurgeons, neurologist, critical care specialist, infectious disease specialist, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist," the hospital said. The statement further read, "But, unfortunately despite our best efforts she suffered cardiac arrest today and she succumbed to the dreaded disease." 

Aindrila was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2015 after which she underwent chemotherapy in Delhi. The actress returned home after completing her treatment and defeating the disease in 2016. Aindrila was once again diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her right lung in 2021 and went on to be declared cancer-free recently after which she made her comeback to acting. She suffered cardiac arrests on November 14, too, after which she was placed under ventilator support. Hailing from the Murshidabad district in West Bengal, Aindrila is survived by her parents and her pet dog. She quickly rose to popularity after appearing on several Bengali television shows and serials that included Jiyon Kathi, Jhumur, and Jiban Jyoti, Mahapeeth Tarapeeth to name a notable few. She was last seen in a web series titled Bhagar and shared screen space with her real-life partner Sabyasachi Chowdhury. 

Fans had been sending in their prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery to Aindrila on social media over the past few days, with the news of her demise now coming as a big shock to many in Bengal. Condolences have been pouring in for the actress from personalities from all walks of life, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who paid her tribute on Twitter saying she would be remembered for the different roles she had portrayed in television and films. She tweeted, "Deeply saddened at the untimely demise of our young artiste Aindrila Sharma. The talented actress won several accolades including the Tele Samman Award. My deepest condolences to her family, fans & friends. I pray they find the courage in this hour of grief."
