Academy Award-winning director James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water opening in theatres worldwide on December 16 is the sequel to the 2009 epic global sci-fi blockbuster, Avatar. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are returning to reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri in the upcoming film, which has been hot in buzz on social media, with Empire Magazine now debuting new images of the lead stars alongside other important characters. While the Avatar 2 teaser trailer released in May gave fans around the world the first action-packed glimpse of the film, the latest images now show Sully and Neytiri along with their children (both biological and adopted as per screenrant) as the story is set more than a decade after the events of Avatar

In the latest Avatar: The Way of Water photos, we are introduced to the biological children who are Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), while their adopted teenage daughter is also in the midst, with Kiri (played by Sigourney Weaver) also present with them. Speaking to Empire, James Cameron opened up about the idea behind Sully having kids of his own in Avatar 2 as the filmmaker mentioned that it all came down to "upping his personal and emotional stakes" in the franchise, which also has a couple of more films set for release in the next five years. Cameron said, "I thought, 'What if I take these incredible characters of Jake and Neytiri and give them a family?' That gives them feet of clay right there."

Apart from Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as Jake Sully and Neytiri, Avatar: The Way of Water also has Jack Champion playing the role of a human stranded on Pandora named Spider, while Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Vin Diesel among others have been cast in other vital roles.
