Ajith Kumar's father, P Subramaniam also known as PS Mani, has passed away at the age of 85. Reports stated that he died due to health-related issues and has been taking treatment for ailments for a long times. An official statement has been released from the the family of Ajith Kumar saying “Our Father PS Mani has been away in the early hours of this morning (24th March) in his sleep after a long time. We are grateful for the care and support provided to him and our family by a number of medical professionals, especially following his debilitating stoke of four years ago. We are comforted, at this time of growth that he lived a good life and knew the undying love of our mother, his partner of nearly six decades."

The official statement further stated that "We (Ajith Kumar and his brothers) appreciate the kind, comforting messages and condolences that have been coming in and ask for your understanding if we many not be able to take calls or respond to messages in timely manner." They have also made a special request to fans that "His last rites will be a family affair. We trust that all who have known loss will respect our wish to grieve privately and deal with his passing with as much equanimity and dignity as possible"
The leading actor Ajith Kumar has two brothers Anup Kumar and Anil Kumar. Though, Ajith Kumar is a well-known actor in the Tamil film industry who has a massive fan base, he is known to be a private person and it is understandable that he wants to mourn the irreplaceable loss of his father with his family privately. It is said that P. Subramaiam, the father of the actor, was residing in Palakkad in Kerala for a long time and has been staying in Ajith's House in Chennai recently for treatment after stroke.
