Veteran South Indian actor Rahman's elder daughter Rushda Rahman tied the knot with Altaf Nawad in Chennai on Thursday, December 9. A grand reception was held in the evening, which saw several personalities from various walks of life, including celebrities from Tamil and Malayalam cinema, wish the newly-married couple. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin too attended the reception hosted by Rahman and wished Rushda and Altaf and, gifted the couple with baskets of green saplings. The evening also saw Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, his wife Saira Banu and son A. R. Ameen grace the occasion, with a photo from the wedding reception now trending on social media. It is to be noted that Rahman's wife Meherunnisa is the sister of Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman's wife Saira Banu. Some other big names from the film industry who attended the reception include K. Bhagayaraj, Sundar. C, actresses Revathy, Nadhiya, Shobana, Lissy to name a notable few. Rahman, who started his career in Malayalam cinema, impressed fans in the 1980s in Tamil films like Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal, Sangamam, Ethiri, Raam, Ajith's Billa, Suriya’s Singam II, Jyothika’s 36 Vayadhinile, Kuttrame Thandanai, while also delivering a stellar performance in the 2016 crime thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. He will next be seen in Jayam Ravi's Jana Gana Mana and Thupparivaalan 2 with Vishal, and has a pivotal role in ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's highly-anticipated epic multi-starrer historical magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan. Rahman will also be making his Bollywood debut in the upcoming Ganapath Part-1 starring Tiger Shroff under Vikas Bahl’s direction. According to reports, he has undergone extensive training to learn Hindi, including getting involved in makeup tests for three months for his role.
