The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday released a list of 301 feature films eligible for the 95th Oscars, which is scheduled to be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023, and will be televised in more than 200 territories worldwide. The list also includes notable Indian films to have made the cut among which are Rishab Shetty's Kantara (Kannada), Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi (Hindi), SS Rajamouli's RRR (Telugu), and Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files (Hindi). 

Some other notable films revealed to have been featured in the eligible list for Oscars 2023 nominations include Pan Nalin's Chhello Show (Last Film Show), which is India's official Oscar entry, Tamil ventures like R. Parthiban's Iravin Nizhal and R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, followed by Marathi movies Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi and Me Vasantrao, and Vikrant Rona in Kannada. The list also includes Indian documentaries like the Shaunak Sen-directed All That Breathes and Kartiki Gonsalves' The Elephant Whisperers. The voting for these films' nomination eligibility in various categories will be held between January 12 - 17 by 9,579 members of the Academy, and the final list will be announced on January 24.

Sharing his excitement over Kantara being featured among the 301 feature films announced as eligible for nomination at Oscars 2023, Rishab Shetty tweeted, "We are overjoyed to share that 'Kantara' has received 2 Oscar qualifications! Likewise, Tamil filmmaker R. Parthiban too expressed his joy at Iravin Nizhal making it to the list in his iconic style and wrote on Twitter, "அந்த மஹா சமுத்திரத்தில் இந்த எளியவனின் படம் எலிஜிபில் லிஸ்ட் வரை வந்ததே வரம் தான்.அதுவும் ஒரு R (upee) கூட செலவழிக்காமல், RRR-க்கெல்லாம் பல cR செலவழித்து campaign செய்கையில்!!!" 

Hindi filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri also exhibited his delight and tweeted, "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:   #TheKashmirFiles has been shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of  @TheAcademy . It’s one of the 5 films from India. I wish all of them very best. A great year for Indian cinema. 🙏🙏🙏 #PallaviJoshi #MithunChakraborty  @DarshanKumaar   @AnupamPKher  are all shortlisted for best actor categories. It’s just the beginning. A long long road ahead.
