'Thalapathy' Vijay's Master released on January 13, 2021, is a special film not only for movie buffs and film aficionados but also proved to be a pivotal moment in Tamil cinema history as it was one of the first major ventures to come out as a wide theatrical release in the face of the pandemic. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators banner in association with Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studio, the mass masala action thriller proved to be a box office juggernaut and revived the movie-watching experience and the theatre business, which faced a severe drought as a result of Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdowns. At a time when many big films headlined by major studios and producers around India were contemplating the release of their ventures, Vijay's Master in Tamil went on to become the first big film featuring A-list superstars to smash its way into theatres, which witnessed a full audience turnout even after it premiered on streaming on Amazon Prime Video two weeks after it came out on the big screens.

In light of Master celebrating one year of its release on Thursday, the makers of the blockbuster film have now dropped a special video showing its entire journey - from the start of the production to the shooting, the unexpected obstacles that popped up in between, followed by the audio launch, the pandemic and the lockdowns causing a delay in its theatrical outing and finally, its release on the big screens around the world. Master took a phenomenal opening powered by Vijay's star power with an electrifying performance that was well-complimented by Vijay Sethupathi's menacing act, including an engaging and tightly-packaged story by Lokesh Kanagaraj and foot-tapping numbers from 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander.

Master is undoubtedly a pivotal film in Tamil cinema history as it paved the way in one way or the other for other ventures to follow suit and have a theatrical release. The decision at the time by the team to stand firm in getting their film released in theatres was a decision that was arrived at in consideration of the fans, who as well wanted to witness Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in action on the big screen despite lucrative opportunities for the producers from leading OTT players. And, the decision proved beneficial big time for the makers and the fans, who continue to celebrate Master to this date even after a year.
