Elections 2024: Annamalai slams Kamal Haasan for claiming BJP will make Nagpur as India's new capital, says

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and Coimbatore's MP candidate K. Annamalai on Monday, April 8, slammed Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) President and actor Kamal Haasan for claiming that the centre would make Nagpur as India's new capital if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in the upcoming 2024 Indian general election. During his interaction with reporters, the BJP leader said, "If anyone is making such claims, be it Kamal Haasan or anybody else, they should be taken to a mental hospital and an examination should be done on whether both the left and right brains are functioning properly, whether they are conscious, and whether they are eating their food properly. Kamal Haasan should be taken to a good psychiatrist and get professional advice. How can Nagpur be changed as India's capital?"

Annamalai further stated, "Had he claimed that Chennai should be made the summer or winter capital of India, I can accept that. Kamal Haasan is now all of a sudden saying that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office is in Nagpur and has arrived at a conclusion that Nagpur would be made India's capital. So, Kamal Haasan should get his head examined. He should decide if he is indeed speaking consciously or whether he wants a Rajya Sabha seat from the DMK by clamouring like this."

Earlier, Kamal Haasan, during his campaign in support of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance candidate TR Baalu in the Sriperumbudur parliamentary constituency, had alleged that the BJP's agenda included changing the national capital from New Delhi to Nagpur, while adding that such a move would undermine the nation’s secular fabric. He also said the BJP was attempting to the change the tricolor on the national flag to a single color.
