Yolanda creates Sri Lankan magic at CIFW

Sri Lankan designer Yolanda Aluwihare entered the world of designing and producing garments in 1970 when she experimented with traditional Sri Lankan batik techniques, combining batik with silk painting and embroidery.

Her collection at CIFW echoed the same. The sarees and dresses in the collection ‘Out of Africa’ had several influences from thedark continent in terms of prints and colours. From tribal masks to peacock feathers, the designs were vibrant and captivating, just like the African continent. Sri Lankan actress Anarkali was her show stopper.
