Telugu sensation Vijay Deverakonda rose to fame with the feel good romantic entertainer, Pelli Choopulu which was a hit venture at the box office. The film also received critical acclaim for its seamless writing and lively performances. Pelli Choopulu fetched National Awards in two categories namely, Best Telugu Film and Best Screenplay - Dialogues.

The film was announced to be remade in Tamil under the production of Gautham Vasudev Menon's Ondraga Entertainment. Vishnu Vishal and Tamannaah were revealed to reprise Vijay and Ritu Varma's roles respectively. GVM's associate, Senthil Veerasamy was announced to helm the Tamil remake, which was titled as Pon Ondru Kandein. However, things did not fall into place as planned and the film was shelved due to reasons unknown.

Tamannaah also made it clear that she would no longer be a part of this film, through one of her tweets. When everyone thought the remake is not going to happen, we are indeed informed that the project is not yet dropped. Yes, but, this time, there is going to be a change in the names of the director and the producer. Vishnu Vishal is retained as the male lead, while the female lead is yet to be finalized.

While talking to Galatta, Vishnu said, "Yes, the remake plans are definitely on. Pon Ondru Kandein will happen very soon. The pre production works are on progress and an official announcement will be made soon. The director and producer's name will also be revealed in the days to come." Apart from this film, Vishnu Vishal is part of director Prabhu Solomon's Kaadan and Jagajaala Killadi, directed by S Ezhil.
