Actor-politician Vijayakanth has been admitted to the MIOT Hospital in Chennai after showing mild coronavirus symptoms during a regular health check-up. In an official statement released by his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) political party, it states that the veteran actor had shown mild COVID-19 symptoms when he had gone for a health check up as he frequently does once in every six months. The statement further reads that he has been treated for the infection and is in good health.

The official press release translated reads as follows: "'Captain' Vijayakanth visits the MIOT Hospital in Chennai once in every six months for his regular health checkup. During his recent health checkup, mild symptoms of coronavirus were detected in 'Captain' Vijayakanth. He was immediately given treatment and has now completely recovered."

It is to be noted that Vijayakanth was one of the first prominent celebrities in the country to extend a helping hand to the government in their efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic crisis when it first struck in March earlier this year. The actor turned politician had authorized the use of his Andal Alagar Engineering College including his party office in Koyambedu in Chennai as hospitals and COVID care centres in order to treat coronavirus patients. He had also instructed his DMDK party workers and cadres to join in on the government's efforts and supply masks, gloves, and sanitisers to health workers, policemen and corporation staff.

Vijayakanth had also announced a few months back that families of coronavirus victims could use a portion of his Andal Alagar Engineering College to bury their loved ones who passed away due to coronavirus after there had been an uproar and outrage over the burial of the deceased persons during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. His efforts and humanitarian gestures went on to earn him appreciation and praise from fans, followers and several noted celebrated film personalities and political leaders among whom Telugu actor turned politician Pawan Kalyan had tweeted about 'Captain' saying, "An amazing and Noble gesture by Thiru @Vijayakant ,DMDK Leader and Superstar for offering a part of his college land for 'Corona victims' , where they  have been denied burial in their own community burial grounds."
