'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi's next film titled Merry Christmas has begun production in Mumbai on Saturday on the festive occasion of Christmas and will see the actor sharing screen space with leading Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif for the first time. The upcoming film touted to be a thriller is being directed by Sriram Raghavan of Andhadhun fame and also marks the first film for Katrina Kaif after she recently got married to actor Vicky Kaushal. Announcing the start of production, Katrina shared a photo of herself and wrote, "BACK ON SET with director Sriram Raghavan's for Merry Christmas! I've always wanted to work with Sriram Sir. He is a master when it comes to narratives that showcase thrillers and it's an honor to be directed by him... Being planned for a release in theatres next year in winter, Merry Christmas had been in pre-production stages for a while now, with Katrina Kaif being spotted on the sets with Sriram Raghavan in Mumbai a few days back. The film is also Sriram Raghavan's next after Andhadhun in 2018, which turned out to be a nationwide success on commercial and critical fronts, with expectations for the upcoming venture now massive. He is also known for directing hits like Agent Vinod and Badlapur and, the casting for Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif has fans mighty excited already. 

Merry Christmas is also the next big treat from Vijay Sethupathi for his fans, who already is awaiting the release of his Tamil films namely Kaaka Muttai fame M. Manikandan's Kadaisi Vivasayi, Seenu Ramasamy's Maamanithan, Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir under debutant Venkata Krishna Roghanth's direction, followed by 19(1)(a) opposite Nithya Menen in Malayalam, including his Bollywood debut Mumbaikar (an official remake of Maanagaram). The National Award-winning actor is also starring alongside 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan and Fahadh Faasil in Vikram under Lokesh Kanagaraj's direction and had also recently dubbed his portions in Vignesh Shivan's Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, which also stars Nayanthara and Samantha. Among the other projects in various stages of development, Vijay Sethupathi has the silent film Gandhi Talks, Sun Pictures' tentatively titled VJS 46, Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai and, The Family Man duo Raj and DK's new web series, which also stars Shahid Kapoor, Regina Cassandra and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles.
