Some sections of the media reported that Venkat Prabhu was all set to make a sequel of Saroja after completing Chennai 28 Second Innings. But now an official press statement came from the director denying all such news as baseless rumours.

Venkat Prabhu said, "It is an absolute baseless rumour. I am on the verge of giving finishing touches to chennai 28 II innings. My subsequent projects are all set to be announced and this plan of Saroja 2 is not at all in my scheme of things. My concentration is on Chennai 28 II innings now and the focus is on recreate the magic of 2007 again in 2016. Kindly note the numerological factor of total nine is only co incidence"
