Tum Mile screenings stopped in Ahmedabad

Films, they say, are instruments that mirrors reel life with real! This couldn't have been more true in the case of Mahesh Bhatt and his by-now-famous son Rahul Bhatt.

Little did Rahul knew that his father's recently-released Tum Mile (starring Emraan- Soha) will be affected in a big way, due to the his acquaintance with David Coleman Headley, the US national who was arrested by FBI for allegedly plotting terror attacks in India at the LeT's (Lashkar-e-Tayyaba's) behest.

Theatres in Gujarat stopped shows of Bhatt's Tum Mile following a demand by the Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) that wanted a state-wide ban on the film. Speaking to us, Anand Chennur, Manager, Devi Multiplex, Gujarat said, "I got a call from the local Police Inspector asking me to pull the film off in order to avoid any controversy. Since I have been in the film business for more than 35 years, I felt that this was a passing phase, as something of this nature had occurred even during the screening of Jodhaa Akbar. I thought that this 'pulling down' thing will last for a few hours and shall then give way to peace. But, immediately after some time, the SP (Superintendent of Police) called me asking me to take the film off my theatre. He also cited the example of the mass destruction that had taken place in Apsara theatre (Kanakia, Mani Nagar). That's when I decided to take Tum Mile off my theatre. After all this, I got an anonymous phone call from a man (who refused to identify himself) asking about the 'status' of the film. Since I had taken the film off, I told him that the film is now off the theatre. Hearing this, he immediately hung the phone."

Repeated attempts to contact Ashok Purohit, President, All Gujarat Multiplex Association did not yield any results.
