The recent Hollywood film, The Lion King, has gone on to become a global blockbuster and is now among the several successful live-action/animated comedy ventures that have come out over the years. Now, another film in the same genre is set to be made and will be based on the worldwide phenomenon, Tom and Jerry cartoon characters, and will be helmed by director Tim Story under the Warner Bros. Pictures banner. Announced for a theatrical release on April 16, 2021, the Tom and Jerry film has now added Australian-born Indian actress Pallavi Sharda as part of its cast, who will be joining names like Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Colin Jost, Ken Jeong, Rob Delaney and Jordan Bolger. Pallavi Sharda has starred in many Bollywood films among which are Shah Rukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan, Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Hawaizaada.

The Tom and Jerry characters were created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940 and the animated versions of the characters to be depicted in the upcoming live-action adaptation will not have any dialogues just like the cartoons. It is being reported that the Tom and Jerry movie will see Chloe Grace Moretz playing the role of a hotel employee named Kayla who brings Tom to get rid of Jerry and then forms an alliance to put their boss, Terrance, being played by Michael Pena, out of business.
