The Conjuring franchise does not seem anywhere close to being done as it will continue with a sequel to 2018's The Nun. The film has found its director in Michael Chaves who is no stranger to this particular franchise as he was the mind behind 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona as well as the third installment of the main Conjuring series with 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Chaves also directed the Billie Eilish music video for 'Bury a Friend'.

The untitled sequel of The Nun will be produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, with Richard Naing of The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Ian Goldberg of Eli as the film’s writers featuring a screenplay by Akela Cooper who wrote Malignant. James Wan took to his Instagram handle to announce that the sequel for The Nun is moving into production. Sharing several pictures of the titular nun, played by Bonnie Aarons, from the sets of The Conjuring 2, he also attached a caption that read, "NUN 2 — moving into production. With @michaelchaves directing. Welcome back Michael and @bonnieaarons1 to #TheConjuringUniverse. Here are some pics of Bonnie haunting me on The Conjuring 2 set."

The pictures show Valak wrapping her hands around Wan's throat, as well as some terrifying close-ups of the supernatural entity. Along with the throwback photos, Wan also announced that Michael Chaves will be directing the film. The Nun was directed by Corin Hardy while the prequel to The Conjuring 2 explored the origins of the terrifying nun figure introduced in that movie and was set in 1952 Romania. Plot details for The Nun 2 have not been revealed as of now but its sequel has been in development ever since the success of the first film which ended up leading to The Conjuring universe being one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.
