A film that is not only being awaited by fans eagerly, but also theatre owners is the upcoming 'Thalapathy' Vijay starrer, Master, which was initially announced to come out on April 9 earlier this year until it was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing a halt to film production and releases for the majority of 2020, expectations have been massive for Vijay's upcoming mass action film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj under Xavier Britto's XB Film Creators banner. Considering the makers recently confirmed it to be coming out in theatres first and not on any OTT platform, Tamil Nadu Minister for Information and Publicity Kadambur Raju had said that the film would be a Pongal release on January 13, 2021. The Minister has also now stated that the permission for special shows will be considered if the team behind Master requests the state government during the time of its release.

It has been a convention for special shows being allowed for big films and Vijay's fans too will be hoping for such a custom to be adopted during the time of Master's release. The subject of special shows being allowed has been debated to an extent of late considering the number of coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu has been on the decrease. TN minister Kadambur Raju had earlier said that he and the government hope for the pandemic to be eradicated from the state before the New Year so that things get back to normal for everyone. Industry traders and theatre owners too are counting on the COVID-19 situation to take a better turn before Master's release as many view the film to put the pedestal back on for the film industry, which has not seen much profit this year owing to cinema halls being forced to shut down due to the lockdown. Despite theatres being reopened this Diwali, those in the film trade are hoping for a big bang for a revival and are counting on Vijay's Master to do just that.

With less than 40 days to go for Master's theatrical release, producer Xavier Britto and the film's distributor Lalit Kumar of 7 Screen Studio caught up for a sudden meeting on Friday, with a picture of their rendezvous going viral on social media. It is believed that they had met to finalize on the various logistics involved in the film's theatrical release. Master is riding on tremendous hype, especially with the casting of 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the antagonist and his showdown with Vijay in the film's teaser recently left fans both satisfied as well as wanting for more. With the teaser turning out to be a grand success, including Anirudh Ravichander's songs attaining chart-buster status, all sights are now on the Master trailer, which can be expected to be released in the days ahead. The film will also see Malavika Mohanan as the female lead, followed by Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan, Master Mahendran, KPY Dheena, Ramya Subramanian, Azhagam Perumal among others forming the supporting cast.
