Beast is an action film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of Kolamaavu Kokila and Doctor fame. Produced under the banner of Sun Pictures, the film stars Thalapathy Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Selvaraghavan and Ankur Vikal. The film revolves around an ex-RAW agent's quest to rescue people in a shopping mall who are held hostage by terrorists.
The film hit the screens on 13 April 2022 and opened to mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. It also garnered a fair amount of praise from them for the cast performances, action sequences, cinematography, production design, music, and background score. The film grossed over Rs. 250 crores at the worldwide box office and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time and also one of the highest-grossing post-COVID19 pandemic Indian films.
But Beast did not just stop there. The film got a post-theatrical release on the OTT titan Netflix where it continued to make big numbers for itself. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer film is trending widely in 16 countries on Netflix. With this, Beast set a record as it became the first Tamil movie ever to do so. The film's music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the cinematography was handled by Manoj Paramahamsa, editing by R. Nirmal, and the production design was supervised by D. R. K. Kiran.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Thalapathy Vijay is currently shooting for his upcoming film Varisu. The upcoming film is directed by Vamshi Paidipally who also co-wrote the film with Hari and Ahishor Solomon. Produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead with Prakash Raj, R. Sarathkumar, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Srikanth, Khushbu, and Sangeetha Krish among others in supporting roles. The film has been scheduled for a theatrical release on January 2023 on the occasion of Pongal.
