TANA 2009 to honour SPB

Legendary Indian singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, also known as S.P.B. and Balu in the media, will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Telugu Association of North America’s annual event TANA 2009 to be held at Chicago on April 1.

For the first time, NTR Jr. will be the chief guest of this event. Allari Naresh, Charmi, Colors Swathi, comedians Suma, Uttej, Rajeev Kanakala and Raghubabu will also participate and perform in this event under the supervision of Murali Mohan and senior director E.V.V. Satyanarayana.

Born in an orthodox Telugu Brahmin family in Konetammapeta near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, S.P.B. made his debut as a singer in 1966 with Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna, a film�with music�by his mentor Kodandapani. He has sung more than 40,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam.

He holds the Guinness world record for the maximum number of song recordings by any singer (the record for a female singer is held by Lata Mangeshkar). Apart from singing, he is also popular as a music director, actor, producer and dubbing artist.
