Leading Tamil channel, Zee Tamil recently acquired the rights for the adaptation of the Tamil edition of the popular international reality TV show, Survivor. The show’s Tamil version is at present in its early stages of development under the entertainment powerhouse, Banijay Asia, and will bring together the best of reality, drama and entertainment. According to early reports, Survivor’s Tamil version will feature around 15-16 contestants, who will be made to stay on an isolated island with limited resources that will be helpful for their survival. They will be required to find ways to survive throughout the course of the game and perform various tasks like getting food and other essentials.

Speaking on the launch of the show, Mr. Siju Prabhakaran, EVP and South Cluster Head, ZEEL, said, "As a channel we have always committed ourselves to engage and entertain our audience with innovative content and variety in reality entertainment. Survivor would definitely set new benchmarks in reality show formats in India. From the production value to the portfolio of talent, Zee Tamil has truly embarked on a journey in partnership with Banijay Asia to redefine quality entertainment in the market." Likewise, Deepak Dhar, CEO & Founder, Banijay Asia added, "Survivor is a show that has a global fan base. The format is unique, adaptable and has the potential to match audience sensibilities across the board. The Tamil industry has always been experimental and bringing a reality show of this nature will only broaden the genre further. Zee Tamil has always gone beyond when it comes to innovative content, and we’re excited to be partnering with frontrunners like them."

It has been revealed that the promotional campaign for the launch of Survivor will be rolled out soon on the Zee Tamil channel, with the show's episodes and the un-cuts from episodes to be made available for viewing on their OTT platform ZEE5. There were reports a while back stating that the makers of the show were in talks with leading Tamil actor Silambarasan TR to take charge as the host. If STR is announced as the host of the Tamil version of Survivor, we can definitely expect it to be a cracker of an entertainer and the next big reality show for viewers across Tamil Nadu after Bigg Boss on Vijay Television.
