The latest to join that list is a mega biggie and the announcement has completely shocked a lot of people. Yes! Suriya’s next big film, Soorarai Pottru will have a direct OTT release on Prime Video and the film will release on October 30. Suriya made the announcement a few minutes before and the announcement has come as a major surprise.

Soorarai Pottru was considered to be one of the major trump cards to bring back the audience to the theatres after the pandemic and now this move has created a huge buzz on social media. Some of the fans have expressed their disappointment over this move as they wouldn’t be able to celebrate the film in the theatres. Even the makers of Soorarai Pottru were all the while assuring that the film will be released only in the theatres as it has been made on a large scale. However, it looks like due to the uncertainty prevailing over the reopening of theatres, this move has been made. Soorarai Pottru has become the first major big league Tamil film to be released directly on an OTT platform and this is indeed a pathbreaking move.

Talking in an official statement, Suriya said that he has taken this decision to release Soorarai Pottru on Prime Video as a producer and has requested for the support of the fans, well wishers and the worldwide audience. Directed by Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame, Soorarai Pottru features Aparna Balamurali as the female lead and veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu in a pivotal role. G.V.Prakash has scored the music for this film and his songs have turned out to be huge chartbusters. A few more songs are to be released and we can expect it to come out in the next few days. Produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, Soorarai Pottru has cinematography by Niketh Bommi and editing by Sathish Suriya.

The film was given a clean U certificate by the censor board, but that doesn’t matter now, considering the fact that the film will have a direct OTT release.
