Suriya has been keeping himself busy of late, having wrapped up promotions for his production venture, Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara under his 2D Entertainment banner. With the film and his performance receiving stellar reviews after its release on Amazon Prime Video, Suriya last week kicked off shooting for Mani Ratnam's anthology film titled Navarasa directed by Gautham Menon, which will stream on Netflix. The actor finished his portions for the short film in the anthology towards the end of last week and is currently on a short break. Having said that, there have been rumors regarding the cast and crew of his next big film, Sun Pictures' tentatively titled Suriya 40, to be directed by Pandiraj.

Over the past few days, there have been rumors circulating on social media, including a few sections of the media speculating that South Indian sensation Rashmika Mandanna was being eyed to play the female lead in Suriya 40. In that light, director Pandiraj took to his Twitter page on late Monday evening to issue a statement requesting fans not to believe in any of the cast and crew rumors that are floating online. He also informed that Sun Pictures will be making an announcement soon, while adding that the team is working hard to deliver the best. Pandiraj wrote, "Dear friends we understand ur curiosity about #Suriya40 . Pls don't believe rumors.  Production house will announce the cast & crew soon.we r working hard to give u the best"

The Suriya-Pandiraj combo has been a long-awaited one as the actor played an extended cameo in Pasanga 2, which was produced by 2D Entertainment banner. The two then teamed up again for 2018's box office blockbuster Kadaikutty Singam starring Karthi, with Suriya making a cameo appearance. The coming together of Suriya and Pandiraj for Suriya 40 has been one fans have wanted for a while now and would expect to be on a ripper of an entertainer when it releases. Apart from Navarasa and Suriya 40, the actor is also attached to director Vetri Maaran's Vaadivasal being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu's V Creations, which as well will mark the Soorarai Pottru star's first-time association with the Asuran director. It is to be noted that a film with director Hari too had been announced, but failed to materialize.
