Karenjit Kaur: An Untold Story Of Sunny Leone’ is a Zee5 original web series, biopic of former pornstar turned Bollywood actress Sunny Leone.

Opens up in 2016 Mumbai with Sunny Leone giving an interview to a top TV channel. Her past personal and professional life forms the crux of the story, showcased in the 10 episodes of Season 1.

Starting with the performances, Sunny Leone has played it safe with subtle acting without over-emoting. She conveys her own life justifications through dialogues and are very much convincing. Artists who played as her Father and Brother are tailor made to their roles. Actor Raj Arjun was just amazing as a TV anchor.

Direction is neat to an extent, though there are some glitches in the presentation at places, overall the work is decent. Screenplay writing is good, narrating the script in a non-linear pattern linking the current situation to the past grabs the attention. But sadly that appears as a major flaw with respect to the making. Dialogues are superb and sensible, packs the punch too.

Many truths on Sunny Leone’s personal life has been unfolded. The beauty is that, they appear to be completely satisfying as both the plus and minus of her choices in life are delivered. How her family members were affected by her job was shown in an emotional manner, however few sequences were flat, overall the impact is good. Few positive and caution messages are also conveyed in a proper manner.

The TV interview scenes stand out, as it moves interesting like a thrilling game. The questions from Raj Arjun and answers by Sunny was challenging. Few flaws exist in the flow as few portions did not make any change to the product. Characters of Sunny’s friends, ex-boyfriend and husband were not given proper importance, so they failed to impress the viewing experience.

Appreciations to the editing team for keeping up with the continuity which is difficult in the kind of narration it has. Cinematography is nice too, especially the indoor shots have come out very well. Making could have been far better, Sunny Leone looks almost same in early 2000s and 2016. More efforts should have put in by the team to hide this big mistake. Also the back and forth presentations seems like a disturbance considering this point in mind.

The theme track is swag and tends to hum. But otherwise, the background score is average that does not suit the situations at many spots. Show focuses more on the unknown personal side of Sunny rather than the known pornography side, the mentioned fact holds the show. Kudos to the team for not adding any unwanted adult scenes just to add up spice.

VERDICT - Has flaws in the making, yet definitely watchable for its truthful presentation and unfolding many unknown facts of Sunny Leone’s life.

Rating - 2.75/ 5.
