Veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has been admitted to the MGM Healthcare after he was tested for the novel coronavirus a few days back. The hospital had released a statement on August 13th that SPB's health condition is critical and he had been shifted to the ICU. Following the shocking news, fans and leading celebrities including Dhanush, AR Rahman, Ilayaraaja, Haris Jayaraj took to social media to wish the star singer a speedy recovery. 

SPB's son SP Charan has been giving updates about his father's health on social media in a way avoid any rumours and in the latest video statement, SP Charan said, "The pleasant news is.. there is some mobility. Dad is moving around a bit. He has signed thumbs up to the doctors. He is able to recognise the doctor. He is still on life support. He is breathing a little more comfortable when compared to some days back. Doctors are seeing as a very good sign. He is on the road towards getting better. There is a lot of effort from the medical team. It will take a long time for recovery. We are hopeful. This is not gonna happen in one or two days.. or even a week. But he will definitely recover and be back as early as possible. Thank you for all the love and support."

About his mother Savitri Balasubrahmanyam, SP Charan also added, "My mom is doing much better. She could be discharged on Tuesday or Wednesday. That is a good sign. I am sure my father will follow her back home as soon as he can."

SP Balasubrahmanyam has worked across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam film industries and has won six National Film Awards. He has also been honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Since his singing debut in 1966 with the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna, Balasubrahmanyam has recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages.
