Sound engineer Sridhar passes away

We regret to announce that H. Sridhar (48), one of the best sound engineers that India has seen, passed away on December 1st, Monday at 8 a. m. following a massive cardiac arrest. Sridhar is survived by his wife and two sons.

Considered to be one of the iconic technicians of contemporary Indian cinema, Sridhar was the Chief Sound Engineer, Media Artists. He was part of A.R. Rahman's team right from the start and was instrumental in creating innumerable hit songs. Mani Ratnam and Ram Gopal Varma were among the elite class of directors with whom Sridhar had worked.

Entering the cine field in 1988 when there was not much technology to speak of, he bagged awards for movies like Mahanandi (a Tamil film starring Kamal Haasan), Dil Se (a Hindi film directed by Mani Ratnam), Lagaan (the Aamir Khan starrer, directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar) and Kannathil Muthamittal (Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam). He even worked with the likes of ex-Beatles George Harrison, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain and John McLaughlin – some of the greats of the international music scene.

Apart from being an excellent sound engineer, Sridhar was a very good human being respected by all his colleagues. He was extremely humble and a very friendly person.

Galatta mourns this great loss of film industry and expresses its condolences to his family.
