Suriya fans were in for a massive surprise earlier this year when it was announced that the star would be teaming up with director Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame for a film titled, Soorarai Pottru, under his own 2D Entertainment banner. Production on Soorai Pottru wrapped up earlier this week and it has now revealed that Suriya’s character name in the film is Nedumaran Rajangam while Aparna Balamurali, who is said to be appearing as his wife will be called as Bommi.
Said to be loosely inspired from the life of G. R. Gopinath, the founder of the Air Deccan airline, Soorarai Pottru includes an ensemble supporting cast among whom are Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, Karunas, Kaali Venkat, Arjunuan, Vivek Prasanna in vital supporting roles. Among them, Paresh Rawal is making his debut in Tamil cinema and will be playing the role of an owner of an airliner named JAZ Airways, which will be Suriya’s chief competiton in the film. Featuring music by GV Prakash Kumar, Soorarai Pottru also includes award-winning international stunt choreographer Greg Powell, who had overseen stunt sequence work in notable Hollywood films such as Fast and Furious 6, Skyfall, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (1&2), The Bourne Ultimatum, Lost in Space, to name a few. Although no specific release date has yet been set, it has been speculated for a while now that Suriya will most likely be planning to bring Soorarai Pottru into theatres towards the end of this year in December.
