Silambarasan TR's fans are an ecstatic lot, especially this week after the release of his rural family action entertainer Eeswaran, which has taken a strong opening. Simbu, who has over the past few months left fans stunned starting with his physical transformation, followed by his re-entry on social media and his subsequent film announcements, had recently been revealed to be resuming filming next for Studio Green's remake of the blockbuster Kannada film Mufti under Sillunu Oru Kaadhal fame Krishna's direction. In that light, the reputed production house on Saturday as an additional Pongal treat for STR fans announced that their upcoming film Pathu Thala's first look will be unveiled on January 18.

Pongal 2021 has turned out to be a memorable one for Simbu fans everywhere as they have gotten to watch Eeswaran in theatres, with the mass masala political entertainer Maanaadu motion poster being released on Friday and the announcement of the Pathu Thala first look now turning out to be the icing on the cake. Pathu Thala is a big project for Silambarasan as it is kickstarting after being announced in early 2019, with Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar paired opposite each other. STR will be reprising the role of a gangster portrayed by Shiva Rajkumar, while Gautham Karthik has been cast as an undercover cop initially played in the Kannada original by Sri Murali.

Announced first to be coming out under the Mufti director Narthan, the filmmaker stepped away from Pathu Thala which will now also include Asuran actor, singer Teejay Arunasalam, Kaliayarasan of Madras fame and veteran Tamil Nadu politician Manushya Puthiran. It has been revealed that Simbu will not have a romantic interest in the gangster action drama, which will begin filming in February, with the swashbuckling star also set to get a new look. There is a lot of interest surrounding Pathu Thala as it brings STR back to gangster genre once again after his Thotti Jaya and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, which turned out to be a smash box office success. Director Krishna had earlier stated that he will be retaining only a scene or two from what Mufti's Narthan had previously canned during their 10-day shoot for the political mafia thriller in 2019, with reshoots set to be carried out once filming resumes.
