Silambarasan TR will be a busy man in 2021 as he has a number of projects lined up ahead and is high in spirits post the strong box office response to his rural family action entertainer Eeswaran, which hit theatres this Pongal. Simbu has left fans everywhere gushing over his physical transformation, including his big return to social media, while also making a number of film-related announcements. With his Maanaadu motion poster released, STR had announced yet another big treat for his fans in the form of the first look for his gangster action drama, Pathu Thala

An official remake of the Kannada blockbuster film Mufti, Pathu Thala is being directed by Sillunu Oru Kaadhal fame Krishna under the Studio Green banner. Krishna is directing the upcoming Tamil remake after Mufti director Narthan had left the project. Announced earlier in 2019, filming on Pathu Thala had begun with Simbu as a gangster and Gautham Karthik playing an undercover cop and are reprising Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar and Sri Murali’s roles in the 2017 neo-noir action thriller. With production set to commence in February, STR's Pathu Thala first look has now been unveiled by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, who also has been revealed to be now scoring the music in the film.

Pathu Thala marks the fourth collaboration for Simbu with the Oscar winner A. R. Rahman after their previous successful films namely Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. A. R. Rahman's association in the film will no doubt give a tremendous impact, who earlier delivered chartbusters for STR and will be the second time the celebrated composer is joining hands with director Krishna after his Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, with the memorable songs in the film still continued to be enjoyed by fans.

Pathu Thala also includes Priya Bhavani Shankar playing the female lead, who is paired opposite Gautham Karthik, with Silambarasan not having any romantic interest. Likewise, the film also includes Asuran actor and singer Teejay Arunasalam, Kaliayarasan of Madras fame and veteran Tamil Nadu politician Manushya Puthiran forming the supporting cast. It has been revealed that the film's plot is set in the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu and is billed to be a political mafia thriller. Check out the Pathu Thala first look posters below:
