Touted to be a political entertainer, Simbu’s Maanaadu is set to begin filming next month with Kalyani Priyadarshan playing the role of the female lead. As of now, no other cast members have been revealed to be part of the film with the technical crew also expected to be revealed in the days ahead.

Meanwhile, there have been reports stating iconic six-time National Award-winning filmmaker Bharathiraja has been roped in by the Maanaadu team to play the antagonist in the film.

That said, we here at Galatta had gotten in touch with producer Suresh Kamatchi to clarify the news who revealed that the Padmashri recipient is indeed a part of Maanaadu, but he will not be playing the antagonist as being stated across other media. He went on to quote saying, "Yes, Bharathiraja is going to be in Maanaadu, but he is not playing the villain."

The veteran director turned actor had impressed one and all with a thunderous performance as a villain in Mani Ratnam's 2004 cult classic, Aaytha Ezhuthu, and will be next seen in an important supporting role in the upcoming Sasikumar starrer, Kennedy Club

Expectations surrounding Maanaadu are quite high considering it marks the first time STR will be working as a hero in a Venkat Prabhu film after he appeared in a cameo in the hit 2009 comedy entertainer, Goa.
